Musings on Wind and Water and Hot Air

I am not in charge of anything, so no one cares what I think. Well, that might be an exaggeration. I think Rocky might care. When I talk to him, he twists his head from one side to the other as he stares back at me with his wet pitch-black eyes wondering what those sounds coming out of my mouth mean. His primary concern, of course, is will he get his treat on time. Thanks to Helen, he usually does.

Hurricanes and floods are terrible things. People have the responsibility to take their own survival seriously. It seems many in New Orleans did not and too many could not.

While people were dying on the bridge, buses were carrying tourists stranded at the hotels to the airport at the direction of the mayor. They could have dropped off some water on the way.

The New Orleans Police Chief does not seem to have the temperament for the job.

New Orleans needs a leader in the office of mayor.

Why did not the school officials at least move the buses to higher ground in case?

Mississippi is in worse shape than New Orleans.

Louisiana has a long history of political corruption.

Louisiana received more federal aid than any other state last year. The levies did not get fixed because the state and city were not motivated to spend the money. Not because it was not available.

The Bush administration has spent more money on poverty and education than any other administration in American history.

How many of the families in the Super Dome and Convention Center had no daddies to help? The illegitimacy rate in New Orleans is over eighty percent. Where are Reverends Jackson and Sharpton when the TV cameras are not around?

They would not let people take their pets, but people defecated on the floors in the convention center.

The Red Cross was not allowed into the area by the governor. She said it was not yet safe while her people suffered.

Mike Brown was over his head before the storm ever hit.

Bush is the first president to fight back against the terrorists. Even Reagan let them get away with it when they killed 200 Marines in Lebanon.

Homeland Security is just another bloated bureaucratic mess. We all knew that would happen. Big means slow and cumbersome. States need to look to their own survival and address it now.

The federal government was helpless to act in the beginning. FEMA has always been an after the worst of it program to assist in rebuilding. It has never been a first responder. The President has been gracious not to point fingers while he takes it on the chin.

Looters were allowed to loot. Nobody got shot, except by the looters who stole guns from the Wal-Mart store. How much water in a TV?

Foreigners do not, for the most part, understand our separation of powers and state rights issues. Our national government is not allowed to enter a state unless invited by the governor. Even many Americans do not understand how their own government works. America is the only federal republic in the world. Our Constitution is unique. State governors control National Guard troops and they cannot be federalized without permission of the governor except in wartime. The Gulf States were victimized by laws meant to keep the federal government from infringing on state rights.

Canada, England, Germany, and Japan are parliamentary forms of government where the central government has more immediate authority.

The BBC and French press should be ashamed of their ignorance. They have to stop listening to the left wing in America.

Senator John Kerry has a home in France. I wonder if he would have made it into the European White House.

The talk about racism during the storm was annoying. Most of the poor in America are white. Less than twenty-five percent of the poor in America are black. Seventy-five percent of the black population in America lives above the poverty level.

Do not raise taxes because of what happened. Federal revenue is up forty percent since Bush took office. It is because of the tax cuts. If the government needs more money, cut more taxes for business in the form of investment incentives. Let free enterprise rebuild the south. They will do it better and faster than the government ever could.

The Democratic Party needs a giant enema. Until they wake up, the Republicans will keep winning elections.

Liberals hate their own country. They want us to be like Europe. How pathetic.

Obama is a pretty-boy phony. All fluff and no substance based on his interview after the hurricane.

The Coast Guard is the most ignored service, yet the most effective in crisis.

The US Army is too small. So is the Marine Corps. Serving was once considered a privilege and a responsibility of a free people.

Even at three dollars, gas is a bargain compared to what it cost thirty years ago, adjusted for inflation. So are plane tickets. High fuel prices are self-adjusting of over-consumption. Let free markets work. Want smaller cars. Let the prices go up and the public will demand them. The SUV will disappear by itself.

Rudy Giuliani would make a good president but he might have too many skeletons in his closet to get elected. That office is about leadership and vision.

Excessive partisanship is bad for the country. Nancy Pilosi is a disgrace. Who was that guy from North Dakoda?

The president of Iran addressed the UN the other day. The first known terrorist ever allowed to do so. We should have kidnapped him. That would have been very funny. We could trade him for something cool like a camel or something. I think the UN should move to Paris. They deserve it.

One million illegal aliens crossed the Mexican Border unchallenged this month. I hope they all settle in Texas. That will teach them. Did you know Texas is the only state with a treaty with the US government allowing them to secede and become a country if they choose? It was a concession when they first became a state.

I guess I have annoyed enough people for one day.
